It appears that HHS has engaged PriceWaterhouseCoopers to perform HIPAA compliance audits at hospitals that have been the subject of complaints under the security rule. They’ll start with about 10 hospitals, and results will be posted on the HHS website — if violations are egregious, the hospitals will be identified. (Hat tip to the folks at CHCF and iHealthBeat.)
If you can’t beat them, beat them to it: This would be just the perfect time to undertake a HIPAA compliance audit of your own, before the federales or their contractors do it for you, so your organization can get into top HIPAA shape and avoid ending up on the HHS cyberspace wall of shame.
