David Harlow quoted on six-month SGR override

December 21, 2007

This week, physicians dodged the federales’ fiscal bullet yet again.  The sustainable growth rate automatic 10% hit to the Medicare physician fee schedule was transformed into a .5% increase, though this is good for 6 months only.  The HealthBlawger is quoted in the this week’s Part B Insider cover story on the latest SGR override.

Here’s hoping our men and women in Washington can tear themselves away from election-year fun and games long enough to hash out a plan to replace the SGR.  Some of them profess to want to do so — and putting it off any longer is just plain unhealthy.

Sustainable Growth Rate: an unsustainable saga

The SGR — a zero-sum game for physician reimbursement under Medicare which guarantees year-over-year lower unit prices — has got to go. Time has run out on the last stopgap measure, and el presidente promises to veto the current fix…
